A conversation with Elizabeth Dawn of Memoirtistry

Elizabeth Dawn of Memoirtistry is an artist, author, editor, performer and podcaster. Her work is deeply personal as it has evolved from the impact of healing trauma through therapy and creative living. She invited me to be her first guest on her podcast—typically she records alone and engages a stream-of-consciousness flow.

Elizabeth and I have been friends since we were in high school so there is a natural back and forth—so much so, in fact, we forgot we were recording.

In our conversation, we discuss effective communication strategies for building strong relationships, emphasizing the importance of active listening, empathy, and creating a safe space for open communication. We share our experiences with conflict resolution and the challenges of navigating conflicts, highlighting the importance of flexibility, self-reflection, and finding common ground. We also explored the complexities of trust, personal growth, and empathy, and engaged in a thought-provoking conversation about embracing authenticity and vulnerability in creative expression. Throughout the conversation, we emphasize the value of being true to oneself and creating meaningful connections with others.

Trigger Warning

In our conversation, Elizabeth touches briefly on the trauma of rape and the ongoing verbal objectification of her body in public places.
